---- that of the jittering leaves all round us
« on: February 10, 2018, 01:57:00 am »
How could I infer: the only ghost of an excuse being to reason by analogy that the nerves chafed and stabbed by my fingernails were the same as my own, that her pain was mine and by extension that of the jittering leaves all round us.  (from V. by Thomas Pynchon; a larger context is here; use ctrl-f to locate the sentence)

Please explain that of the jittering leaves all round us.  Which of the following fits?  Thanks.  --- tk

(1) her pain was that of the jittering leaves all round us
(2) the pain of the jittering leaves all round us was mine

ps. Sorry about the error in the link; I corrected it.

Not really sure, tk. Seems a very abstract sort of sentiment to me.
Where's Mr Tasker these days? He's good at those things!
